Miss Amy's Bio

"Miss Amy” Pilkinton

Amy Pilkinton is the successful owner of Miss Amy’s School of the Arts, home to the Regional and National Award-Winning Miss Amy’s Competitive Edge Dance Company. In 2013, Amy is celebrating Miss Amy’s 25 year anniversary where she teaches ballet, tap, jazz, clogging, gymnastics, pom pom, cheer, lyrical, modern, and musical theatre to ages 3 through adult.

Since the year 2000, Amy has been choreographing and leading teams to national dance titles – including a student who won Mr. Starquest for five straight years. Amy’s positive attitude combined with her friendly, committed teachers and parents often win the studio Spirit Awards at competitions.

Amy and her leadership team regularly win regional and national choreography and costume awards. Her teams have also won 10 Odyssey awards in the last 20 years.

Amy choreographs, hosts, and judges the annual Mrs. Tennessee pageant as well as the annual Dickson County Fairest of the Fair pageant. She also choreographs musicals for local community theatres, various local and regional pageants, and the Praise Parade in Franklin, TN featuring Grammy Award-winner Amy Grant.

Amy has judged the Starpower Dance Competition, multiple talent shows, and local and regional pageants. She is also the co-host of the Prissy Hen Talk Radio Show, and is a TV host on local Channel 19.

Amy’s former students include a professional Tennessee Titans cheerleader, multiple dancers in country music videos, collegiate cheerleaders and dance team members, and many students who have gone on to earn dance scholarships to colleges and universities.

Amy is heavily involved in the community as a volunteer leader for Relay for Life and recently participated in a Dancing with the (Local!) Stars fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Center. She volunteers for the YMCA, Summer Youth Program for underprivileged kids, choreographs local elementary school spring programs, and introduces her dancers to community service by having them dance at nursing homes, participate in health fairs, cancer auctions, and cheer programs. She recently choreographed a teacher flash mob for a local high school that went viral on YouTube.

Amy’s formal dance education includes the Memphis Ballet, Tennessee Dance Makers, Tennessee Performing Arts Association, and the Southern Dance Association. She has studied under Al Gilbert, and attends annual conventions such as the New York City Dance Teacher’s Convention, Monsters of Hip Hop, UCA, NCA, and has attended Smokey Mountain Encore Clogging convention every year since 1990.
